TORN WITHIN — EPISODE 1
THE VOID

The city of Lagos is always alive — cars honking, voices shouting, traders bargaining, buses racing for passengers. But for Dara, the noise of the world had gone quiet the day her husband, Chike, died in a car crash.
Her once warm home had become a hollow shell. The walls echoed with silence. The bed was too big. The nights, too long.
Dara tried to be strong. “I will not break… I must hold this family together,” she often whispered to herself. But her heart was heavy, and her tears often betrayed her courage.
It was in this brokenness that her only son, Kelechi, stepped in.
Kelechi was not just a son anymore.
He became her strength, her listener, her comfort. He cooked for her. He checked on her every night. He wiped her tears when she thought no one was watching. Slowly, he filled the vacuum his father had left behind.
At first, it was innocent. A mother leaning on her son for support. A son protecting his grieving mother.
But sometimes, late at night when the house was quiet, Dara would look at him and see more than just her child. His mannerisms reminded her of Chike. The way he laughed. The way he walked. The way he looked into her eyes when she spoke.
And Kelechi too… he lingered a little too long when hugging her. His hand rested a little too softly on her shoulder. His eyes carried something unspoken.
One rainy evening, as thunder rolled across Lagos skies, Dara broke down completely.
She sat in the living room clutching Chike’s framed photograph, her sobs uncontrollable. Kelechi rushed to her side, wrapping his arms around her.
“Mummy, please… you still have me. I’ll take care of you. I’ll never let you be alone.”
She pressed her face into his chest. The warmth was familiar. The scent of him, comforting. But it was also dangerous.
For the first time, Dara felt a tremor in her soul.
A line had been crossed — not by action, but by emotion. A forbidden seed had been planted.
